1.Language

You can change the display language of Expert. This also affects the selection of sample project templates which are available.
Select one from the list of available languages by clicking on it. There is always a checkmark after the name of the language which is currently set.
After you have chosen a different language (from the currently set one), you must exit Expert and restart it. The new language settings then become valid.

2.General

Save project before transfer?

Indicates how the HS/FS Expert behaves before the transfer of a project. The following options are available:
  • Always save - Automatically saves the project during each transfer
  • Ask beforehand - Asks whether the project is to be saved before each transfer (default setting)
  • Do not save - Opens the transfer mask directly. The project is not saved
Note
If the project has already been saved, no query appears for the Ask beforehand option.

3.Applications

Graphics program

Here, the graphics program is assigned which is started by the HS/FS Expert to automatically create graphics. The path and name of the graphics program are entered in the field.

Example for Microsoft Paint©:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mspaint.exe

The program is started, and in the process the name and path of the graphics file are transferred by transferring the parameters. Programs which are assigned here must support the transfer of parameters.

Example for Microsoft Paint©:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mspaint.exe C:\test\hintergrund.gif
Note
Please note that your graphics program should support the formats gif, jpeg/jpg or png! Older versions of Microsoft Paint(c) do not support all formats!
Note
The program Paint.NET© is a free, much more extensive version of Microsoft Paint©. It supports all of the above formats. You can download it from the Paint.NET page (external link).

4.Voice messages

Defines the voice with which the voice messages are to be generated.
Note: The language must be installed beforehand. Additional information can be found under Voice messages

5.Backup copies & restoration

Note
The settings made here apply to allprojects!

5.1.Options

The following options are available to you:
  • Do not carry out automatic data backup - No backup copy is created during saving
  • Only back up project file - The ".hs3" file will be backed up. (Default procedure from versions lower than 2.4)
  • Create restoration point - The complete project folder of the current project (incl. the ".hs3" file) will be backed up

Max. number of backup copies

Specifies the maximum number of backup copies that can be created. A backup copy is always created during the saving process. You can reload a backup copy in the main menu in the "File" menu under the item Restore.
Note
The smallest value that can be set is '2', and the largest value is '1000'. The default setting is '2'.
Note
This setting applies to all projects!

Path for backup copies

Here, you specify a directory in which the backup copies are saved. The default setting is the path "My Files\HS+FS Expert\Backups". A directory whose name matches the name of your project directory is created under this path. In this directory another directory is created which consists of the current date and the time.
You can set how many of these directories are reserved under Max. number of backup copies.
What is saved in these directories is dependent on the settings you make under Options.

6.Basic folder

The basic folder contains all the other directories in which data that can be managed by the user are stored. For example, the project folder and the directory for backup copies.

6.1.Settings

Here you see the current path for the basic folder of Expert. If the default settings have not been changed, this is located under "My Files\HS+FS Expert".
Important
The path shown under this item is the "complete" path for the default directory of Expert. This is usually only specified from "My Files", however it is shown completely here.
Your user name which you used to log into Windows is also hidden in the "complete" path. This name is shown in the header of the context menu, which is displayed when you click on the Windows Start button. This means that if neither the path for the "My Files" in your Windows settings nor the default path of Expert has changed and your Windows user name is, for example, "User1", the path would look like this: "C:\Documents and Settings\User1\My Files\HS+FS Expert\".

Clicking on the indicated path opens a file dialogue window in which you can specify or change the path for the basic folder. It is advisable to retain the default setting.

7.Project folder

Among other things, the project folder contains a (default setting) of the sample project folder.
In addition, this directory is also suggested as the default directory for creating new projects.
If you have replaced an older version of Expert (2.3 or earlier) during the installation of Expert 2.4 (or a later version), then all projects installed there are moved into the project folder.

7.1.Settings

The settings are analogous to those described in the previous point Basic folder.

8.Help

The help is displayed with the browser defined as default. No special application is required.

8.1.Local

The locally installed version of the help is used after activation of this menu item.
This is the default setting.

8.2.Online

After activation of this menu item, the Internet version (under hs-help.net) of the help is used.

8.3.Update

The Internet help files (hs-help.net) are downloaded, with the local help being updated.
